Triplet Squirrel Story
My little ones have found orphaned triplets,
three baby squirrels, which they have faithfully for many days
nursed witih a bottle in the middle of the night. Chip and Dale
and Chess have had a very safe and comfortable nest with plenty
of food and water and lots of love. They have been very protected
and have become tame, jumping into our laps and running up our
clothes. But recently they have been running thoughout the house
like "wild teens", just longing for FREEDOM. It was time to put
them outside in a big cage! :)...But in the process of doing so,
little Chess got loose and ran up a tree. Isn't that just like
a teen who is longing to exert his independence and see the world?
Little Chess was not aware of the DANGERS that awaited her.
She didn't know how to find food and water in the wild; she didn't
know about all the animals who longed to destroy her. Many of
our children, also, have been warned about the devil, the "roaring
lion" who seeks to devour, but they seem to be unaware that he
is a real DANGER.
So...little Chess' heart was beating wildly, and even with all
the pleadings,
she just roamed the branches but would not come down. My little
girl stood beneath the tree, sobbing her heart out, and when the
little squirrel fell and disappeared into the bushes, her heart
was broken. We searched, but we could not find her...
Where is true happiness? Where is true freedom? Safe in the arms
of Jesus!!!!
We pray our children will remember:
John 8:31
If ye CONTINUE in my word, ...ye shall know the TRUTH, and the
truth shall make you FREE.
And the truth is that when we make the LORD our Home, our "habitation",
as Psalm 91:9 says, we shall indeed be FREE!
Psalm 91:1
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide
under the shadow of the Almighty.
Spurgeon says, "When through the blood of Jesus a soul is brought
into sweet fellowship with God, it's real dangers are over...Noah
was secure the moment he entered the ark, and so are we so soon
as we are in Christ...
O Jesus, Saviour of the lost
Our ARK and hiding place.
By storms of sin and sorrow toss'd,
We seek thy sheltering grace.
Forgive our WANDERING and our sin
We wish no more to ROAM.
Open the ark and take us in,
Our soul's ETERNAL HOME."
(emphasis mine)
Let us pray for those we love who seem to be running from
the Lord, that they will soon be able to really pray this prayer
and "COME HOME" to the Lord, just as little Chess did in the afternoon
when she slipped back into the house, realizing finally that the
the real place of happiness is where there is food and water!
May all of us abandon forever our loves, even legitimate earthly
joys, if they have our hearts, and may we find our soul's
true happiness in God and His word, for Jesus alone is our "bread
from heaven" and our "spring of living water"!
